One year later...
Today marks the one year anniversary of one of the scariest days of my life.  A year ago right now I was sitting in a hotel lobby after helping my parents evacuate their home while the worst wildfire in Texas history threatened to destroy it.  Luckily, the fire only came within half a mile of their home, but they were displaced for over a week, and people had come in and looted. So many people...

Stomach bug + LapBand = Rough
All this week I have been battling a stomach bug.  I have a LapBand and learned this week that any stomach virus symptoms tend to irritate the band, causing me even more discomfort and stress.  I have been worried all week about the band slipping, or being too tight…anyway, it has made for a rough-ish week.  Silver lining-WEIGHT LOSS!!!  Isn’t that terrible?!?!  Despite the bug and...

I can't stop eating everything in sight...
…and what is 5 miles down the road with an easily accessible drive-through window.  This is bad.  This is really bad.  I have slipped back into some old, disgusting, shameful habits.  The only difference is that I am actually still working out, which is helpful.  I actually am holding myself accountable for my lunch (Taco Cabana) which is why I’m putting this out there into the...

Comanche Park Training Run 5 Miles
This five miles came a little easier, even though I didn’t do it on a flat track and added in quite a few hills, than last week.  I had fun today!  I love running at Comanche Park.  There are some really easy trails, and then some tougher, steeper ones, and just kind of mixed it up.  My favorite thing about this park is that there are always groups of military people out running there, in...

5 Mile Training Run
Oh goodness.  Last weekend I pushed myself to run 4 miles without walking…I couldn’t do 5 without walking.  We have had so much rain here in the last week, which is super great, but running in the humidity SUCKS!  I was sweating so much that my Sweaty Band hair thing-a-ma-jig fell off!  My hair was so wet from sweating, that my band couldn’t gain traction and stay on!  Anyway,...

How do you make a comment on your own post, like, in reply to someone else’s comment?  I want to make comments to others, but I can’t do it!!!  I’m somewhat technologically incapable!!!  HELP!

4 Mile Training Run
I woke up in a crappy mood this morning because I didn’t sleep very well, it is like a sauna here all the time in the summer, and I didn’t want to do 4 miles today because I was scared.  I am now to a point where doing 3 miles is really not difficult for me, which is great.  But, pushing past 3.25 is mentally daunting to me.  I know, though, that if I don’t push past that, I...

Hello again!
I decided to start posting here again.  The last time I lost any weight was when I was posting on Tumblr.  I feel that, even if no one is reading this, people are reading this!  I can’t let anyone down!  I like feeling that I am being held accountable by some one other than myself.  I will work harder. Anyway, I “started” training for my first half marathon.  It has not been...

Went to the track anyway...
I have kind of been out of the loop lately.  I got a little sick last week, I really hate my job, my best friend lost her dad, my mom slipped and broke her hand…the list goes on.  I have been on a vacation to FUNK CITY.  Well, I wanted to use the scary looking sky as an excuse not to go run.  I am so glad I didn’t.  I set a goal to run 2 miles without stopping.  I did it!  In the...

Funk
Some kind of bug has invaded my body, my job completely stinks right now, my best friend’s dad passed away last night, and I can’t seem to pull myself out of a funk. Also, I’m addicted to Pinterest, and it just makes me want to eat everything I can get my hands on. I just want to yell, really loudly, the word that sounds like funk. Was this post an over share?

Beautiful Weather does not always Equal Beautiful...
I was excited all day about my scheduled “easy” run this afternoon. Spring has pretty much arrived here in South Texas…it is my favorite! The Mountain Laurels are out, everything is fresh and green, it has rained a lot here (thankfully) and it smells amazing out. Unfortunately, I’m very allergic to mold and several grasses that grow here. I also got started on this run way...

Week Seven Submission
Write a list of your trouble foods. What do you habitually struggle with? Write them down. I pretty much struggle with every kind of food, but mostly sweets.  Baked goods, cereal, and chocolate.  I’m not a big salty food fan, but I’ll eat it if it is around. Stay away from those foods this week. We will make this a long-term commitment, but for now, focus on making it through the...

Today's Run (and some other stuff)
I went out and had a pretty good little run at Texas Lutheran University. They have a nice 1k walk/run track there. The only thing is, it is right across the street from a Tyson chicken processing plant. Sometimes it gets, well, stinky. This afternoon was quite pleasant, actually. I am finally running my 3.1 miles in under 40 minutes. This was a goal for me at the beginning of the year, and...

San Antonio Rodeo 4-Mile Stampede
Because we can’t call it a race in Texas…it’s a stampede. I picked up my packet for the “stampede” this evening, and thought it hilarious that included in my “swag” bag was a packet of meatloaf seasoning. I was SOOO excited to participate in this race. When I was in high school, I showed pigs…I know, so very country of me, huh? I actually made a...

Do Life Challenge Week 5 (aka Longest. Post....
I learned all kinds of things this week.  First of all, there is more to “working out” than just running…okay, I really knew that, but I didn’t want to deal with it.  Since one of the tasks this week was to create a workout for our buddies, I had to learn, rather, re-learn some things about what the human body really should be able to do.  I was an athlete in high school. ...

What a Week
This week has most definitely been the busiest of the new year for me.  Not only did I lose my senior English classes and gain 3 junior English classes, I also rearranged my whole classroom.  If any of you are teachers, you know how the classroom becomes home away from home.  I got to work at 7:30 and left after 5:00 every day…except today, I left early and got my brows and upper lip waxed...

Does Lap-Band Equal a Four Letter Word for Do...
So, tonight on the forums, I ran across some negative comments about weight loss surgery that really upset me. One in particular. It was also said that weight loss surgery is the complete opposite of what Ben did. How is realizing that I have a serious problem, and doing something about it completely opposite. I totally agree that I took a different approach, but I’m WORKING so hard to lose...

Thoughts and stuff
Okay, well…I thought I would put this out on Tumblr for all to see.  I avoid talking about this as much as I can, because it isn’t a part of my life that I am proud of.  However, I am proud of myself for getting a grip on what my life has become and working to change myself to be healthier for my family…and let’s face it, myself too.  When I was in high school, I was a fit...

Initial Thoughts of "Do Life Buddy" Week
When I first read this week’s challenge, I was TERRIFIED.  I am not shy in person, but I am not always comfortable getting to know a stranger in a very short amount of time, especially when it isn’t face to face. Well, I really should not have been worried, because I think I ended up with the most awesome buddy.  We have very similar taste in TV shows, and I think we are both silly...

Week 3 Do Life Challenge
Whew!  What a week.  I posted my photos on the Week 3 thread, but also wanted to discuss the challenge a little here.  I didn’t mean to, but I skipped Week 2…I’m not going to post about it, but it wasn’t that great of a week anyway.  Week 3 was amazing.  I am learning to step out of some comfort zones.  Before I gained all my weight, I was an outgoing person.  I...

Week 1/12
Well, week one of the DO LIFE challenge has come to an end.  I was able to accomplish all but one of the challenges.  Here is the run-down: The challenges: Write down five quantifiable, short-term goals and assess yourself in each area.                 1. Get down under 200 (lose 10 pounds)                 2. Stop buying coffee in the morning (save 8 dollars a week by doing so)                 3....
